What is English Paper Piecing?
English Paper Piecing is a hand-sewing technique where fabric is wrapped around paper templates and whip-stitched together to create intricate geometric designs. No sewing machine required — just needle, thread, and intention.
It's portable, meditative, and endlessly creative. From classic hexagon flowers to complex kaleidoscope quilts, EPP rewards patience with heirloom-quality results that last generations.

Our Story
Sage & Thread began at a kitchen table, surrounded by hexagon papers that were never quite right. Our founder, an English Paper Piecing devotee for over twenty years, grew tired of settling — for papers that warped, templates that slipped, and kits that missed the point.
So she started making her own. Every paper piece is cut in-house to exacting tolerances. Every template is 3D-printed from the highest quality materials, designed for precision that lasts. Every pattern is written — and stitched — by us before it reaches you.
We don't resell. We create. And everything we make is built on the belief that the right tools make the work better.
Why Sage & Thread
01
Every paper piece, 3D-printed template, and pattern is designed and made in-house. We don't resell — we create EPP tools we'd want to use ourselves, built to the tolerances the craft demands.
02
Whether you're basting your first hexagon or designing a complex medallion quilt, you'll find exactly what you need — and nothing you don't.
03
Our team are passionate EPP practitioners. Every product decision starts with a needle in hand — if it doesn't perform beautifully, it doesn't make it to the shop.
Modern Tools for Creative Quilters
Every tool we make starts with a problem we encountered in our own EPP practice. We design, prototype, and refine in-house — 3D printing the templates and cutting the papers ourselves before they reach you.

Patent Pending — FoldWell™ Alignment and Glue Press System. U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 64/078,510 filed May 30, 2026.
Our in-house designed tool attaches fabric to paper templates without getting glue on your fingers — creating a stronger, smoother bond for beautifully finished hexagons every time.
Designed for the way EPP quilters actually work. Our pressing boards are sized for the craft — firm enough to hold shape under an iron, smooth enough to release basted papers cleanly without distortion.
Printed in-house from engineering-grade materials. Each template is dimensionally accurate to within 0.1mm — because in EPP, a fraction of a millimetre is the difference between a rosette that lies flat and one that doesn't.
Pair our cutting guides with your rotary cutter for fabric pieces that match your paper templates exactly. No more trimming, no more guessing — just clean, consistent cuts ready to baste.
